Protect U.S. Consumers: Stop S.517

Congress is moving to waive the requirements in the Clean Air Act for E15 and push higher volumes of ethanol onto the fuel market despite serious risks for consumers.

S.517, the Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, would allow E15, fuel containing 15 percent ethanol, to be sold year-round, skirting Clean Air Act rules. This bill is not about consumer demand or consumer choice; it’s about ethanol producers expanding the market for their product.

A flood of E15 into the marketplace would greatly increase the risk of misfueling in some engines, causing metal corrosion, swelling of rubber parts and even full engine break-down.

This is our chance to stop Congress. Take action now.
