Write Your Congressman. Ethanol Mandates Raise Costs for Consumers

A government policy that forces ethanol into the American marketplace isn’t smart and it isn’t cheap. Producing ethanol increases the cost of corn, which leads to higher prices for other commodities such as dairy, meat and livestock feed that farmers rely on.

Ethanol mandates are converting our food into fuel and are having an impact on food prices the world over. Here at home, the mandates have increased food costs for a family of four by $2,000 a year.

Not only that, but you're going to pay for these mandates when you're filling up at the gas station, too. Ethanol-blended fuel increases your costs at the pump, and decreases the value of what you put in your tank. What you end up getting is 33 percent lower fuel economy, and more trips to the gas station.

Don't waste your money on the government's failed policy. Tell Congress today that we need to change this policy.

Write Your Congressman. Ethanol Mandates are Bad for the Environment

Supporters of ethanol mandates made a lot of promises when their policy was made into a law, one of them being that ethanol-blended fuel is better for the environment. In fact, research continues to show that the opposite is true.

The reality is that ethanol requires massive amounts of land and water to produce, and it generates more lifecycle emissions than gasoline. Colorado scientists estimate that refining a gallon of ethanol-blended gasoline requires between 170 and 220 gallons of water, versus five gallons of water used to refine traditional gasoline.

You can help stop these negative impacts on our environment and help preserve our resources. Tell Congress to act now and change a policy that does more harm than good.

Write Your Congressman. Ethanol Mandates are Bad for Your Engines

General wear and tear on your engines is expected. But would you believe it if we told you that a government policy is actually causing unnecessary damage to them?

It’s true – America's ethanol mandate requires that ethanol be blended into our fuel supply and into our engines. This can cause corrosion of metals, swelling of rubber and break down of the engine entirely. What's worse is that gasoline that contains a higher percentage of ethanol could actually void the warranty on your vehicle.

The engines in our cars, boats and small motors are at risk of costly and unsafe damages as a result of misfueling. Tell Congress today that we need a better policy that protects our property instead of harming it.

Write Your Congressman. Ethanol Mandates are Expensive and Unrealistic

The ethanol mandates, also known as the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), is a policy disaster.

From mandating production and consumption of fuel that doesn’t exist, to years of missed deadlines by the EPA, it's clear that the bandaids aren't working for this broken policy. Now is the time to call on Congress to take action and fix these unworkable ethanol mandates once and for all.

Sample Action

Just how big of an impact has the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) had on food prices and hunger? In 2011, the United States produced 13.95 billion gallons of ethanol from corn and other crops, which would have been enough to feed 570 million people that year.

Five hundred and seventy million people.

The RFS mandates converting food into fuel and are having an impact on food prices the world over. Here at home, the mandates have increased food costs for a family of four by $2,000 a year. Abroad, using food for fuel has restricted the global corn supply and caused real consequences for the global war on hunger.
