The Columbus Dispatch:  Use of ethanol in older cars takes its toll

August 27, 2013

Shirley Doherty, August 27 – The Saturday Dispatch article “Beware of ethanol increase” addressed the effect of increased ethanol on lawn equipment. It isn’t just lawnmowers. What about cars?

A recent Dispatch article stated the average car is 11.2 years old. That means there many much-older cars on the road. Those of us who enjoy vintage cars as a hobby (historic vehicles that are driven, not shown) have seen the impact of increasing ethanol since its use began: damaged fuel pumps and carburetors and gummed-up gasoline tanks.
